January 30, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

I have not spoken with Mom today, but I'm assuming that no news is good news.  

We love our brother Brent, but tonight he is a big brown noser!  He made liver and onions for Mom and Dad tonight.  Yuck, gag, blegh………Meredith, Michelle and I are very happy to be far away from that vile  food.  

January 29, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom had an appointment this morning with a cardiologist.  Her heart beat was so high that she was taken to ER.  She requested that she go to the university hospital instead of the hospital she has been at.  They were able to lower her heart beat and also ran many more tests.  In the end, she was released and spent the night in the motor home.  I'll have more to report tomorrow.

January 28, 2015 - Brent's, in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom was tired this evening when I spoke with her, but Dad reports that she had a pretty good day.   She and Willie snuggled for a bit  and then she had leftovers for lunch.

Dad gathered some of her medical records and filled out forms for her cardiologist appointment tomorrow.

They have moved the motorhome to an rv park nearby to dump the tanks.  They will stay there for a couple of days before going back to Brent's.   This evening Debbie and Paul visited for a bit with them.

January 27, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Missisippi

I am happy to report that Mom is back in the motorhome!  Whoo hoo!!!!!!

Dad says that she was able to get in the motorhome by herself and then into Brent's house for dinner.  Willie, of course, was beside himself to see her.

She has a follow-up appointment Thursday morning with the cardiologist.

Hopefully tonight she will get a good nights rest.

January 26, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi ,

Today's x-Ray showed no additional fluid!!!!!  Tomorrow she should be released.  Her appetite is down to nothing, but I think that might be because she isn't moving around at all.  With Brent's cooking, she should be scarfing food down in no time.

January 25, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

The chest x-Ray today showed very little fluid.  Hip, hip, hooray!!!!!  Depending on another x-ray tomorrow, she might be sprung then.   Willie might get his Abuela back home!

January 24,2015 -Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Another 400cc's of fluid was drained today, 200 cc's less than last time.  Tomorrow another x-ray, hopefully no more fluid.

Thank you Wesley for visiting.  She loves seeking new faces.

January 23, 2015 -Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Brent called today to report that Mom has congestive heart failure.  They believe that fluid that she has around her lung is "leftover" fluid that they were unable to drain two days ago.  We were encouraged by that because it means that there is no new fluid buildup.  They are going to xray her again tomorrow and then put her on medicine that should help to control it.

She meets with the cardiologist who placed the stent tomorrow.

All in all, the news was good because it is controllable through medication.

Mom enjoyed a visit from Debbie, she said that it was nice to get caught up with her.

January 22, 2015 -Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

X-rays of Mom's lungs showed more fluid buildup.  The doctor told her that they were going to try to remove it through her IV.  If that doesn't work, they will drain it through an incision in her back.  She isn't looking forward to that because she said that it really hurt yesterday.

Once again, we are left with more questions than answers.  Maybe tomorrow........

January 21, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom was poked, prodded and x-rayed today.  They found some fluid buildup around her left lung, which they drained.

She is still in the hospital, hopefully we will get some answers tomorrow.

January 20, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Last night and this morning Mom was having some chest pains.  She already had an appointment with a doctor this morning which she went to.  It was decided that she should be admitted into the hospital for monitoring.   Hopefully tomorrow I will have some good news to report.

January 19, 2015 -Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Today was PT day, Mom was able to do two hours of intensive work, she was happy about that.

Brent wanted to report that he is finally converting Mom into a grits fan.  They went out for lunch and she tried his bacon cheese grits.  She said that they were delicious.  I'm not convinced that she is becoming a fan of grits.  Almost anything you put bacon and cheese on becomes instantly better.  Nice try, Brent.  😃😃😃😃😃

January 18, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Congrats to the Seattle Seahawks for making a furious comeback to beat the GB Packers.  Super Bowl bound!  When Brent wasn't pacing, he was on the edge of his seat.

Mom's energy level was low today.  I reminded her that she hasn't felt well for months and her body needs a chance to catch up.  She has a PT appointment tomorrow, she is kind of dreading it, but knows that it is a necessary evil.

January 17, 2015 -Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Happy birthday, Dad!!!!!!  The youngest 80 year old I know.

Drumroll please.................Mom is back in the motor home!!  She climbed the stairs by herself and is snug as a bug in a rug.  Dad said that she was able to climb the MH stairs better today then before she went into the hospital in December.  She is getting stronger and stronger!

January 16, 2015 -Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom  had a two hour PT appointment today.  The focus was using weights and building up core strength.    As a reward for her hard work, Mom and Willie shared a bowl of ice cream.

January 15, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom had a very busy day.  Her appointment at the rehab center was for a complete re-evaluation and to set up appointment for the next few weeks.  Michelle reports that they worked her had, trying to get her ready to go back into the motor home.  She will go three times a week.

After that, they made a stop at Walmart.  Apparently Dad was getting in touch with his inner Jeff Gordon.  Michelle said that they might have to give him a speed limit while pushing Mom in her wheelchair.

January 14, 2015 -Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

I spoke with Mom this afternoon.  She was quite happy to be out of the rehab center.  Willie's tail was in overdrive today because his Abuela was there all day.  Tomorrow she has an appointment with PT to be evaluated and set up a series of appointments.

January 13, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Michelle sent a text at 3:30 to say that mom was officially in outpatient PT .  She wasn't getting much rest at night where she was, so being back home will be wonderful for her.  With proper rest and Brent's delicious food, I have a feeling that she is going to improved.  Before long, she may challenge Brent to a footrace in the driveway.  I've seen Brent run, Mom would have a shot a winning that race. 😄

January 12, 2105 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom was supposed to have had an appointment with the cardiologist today.  After loading her up and driving to his office, they discovered that it had been cancelled and rescheduled to January 26.  She was tired after a sleepless night, so off they headed to Brent's for a nap.

January 11, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Yesterday was practice for today.  Mom did so well, that once again she was whisked away to Brent's.  Dad made his famous "big breakfast".  He happily told me this morning how much stronger she is getting.  Brent's neighbors and good friends Amy, Mike, Robin and Wesley came for a visit, as well as Coleson and Sara, who came with a treat from Sonic for  Mom.

Brent's comment after yesterday's visit was:  Let's face it, Mom only came to see Willie.  Meredith, Michelle and I quickly agreed that that was probably the case.  😃. While we were all joking, Willie is probably the best medicine for Mom.  He adores her and she him.

A big shout out to the Seahawks for their win yesterday.  Unfortunately, the Bronco's lost today.  😪

Tomorrow the Ducks play!  Quack, quack, quack, quack quack!!!!!!!!!

January 10, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom had a great day today!  Dad and Michelle sprung Mom for the day and took her to Brent's house.

January 9, 2015 - Brent's in Bandon, Mississippi

Michelle reports that Mom had a busy and productive day.  The idea is to spring Mom Sunday and Monday for a few hours to watch the Broncos and Ducks win their football games.  😃😃😃

January 8, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Brent reported this afternoon that Mom was able to get out of bed by herself and use the walker to go to the restroom.  Considering how weak she has been, that is like running a 5 K for her!  Way to go, Mom!  Michelle made the trip east today.  I know that Mom was extremely happy to see her.

January 7, 2015 -Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Unfortunately, I don't have much to report tonight, although, "no news might be good news".  I spoke with Dad this morning, Mom had just gone in for her first of three PT sessions of the day.  There is a changing of the guards.  Meredith left today and Michelle arrives tomorrow.  Thank you Meredith for going to 'Sippi to help Dad and Brent.  This has been really hard on our Dane boys.  The Dane girls are grateful for the love and support of Brent's friends and neighbors.

January 6, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom had her first day of rehab.  Meredith was impressed with the staff.  Mom called tonight, she sounded pretty good.  Her roommate is driving her nuts, but that might be incentive for her to put her nose to the grindstone and get released faster.

January 5, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Big news for Mom today.....she moved to a rehab center.  Meredith says that this place has a fabulous gym which includes a "house" for their patients to practice in.  The best news is that Willie may visit. I can see him quickly becoming the mascot of this place.

January 4, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom had and eventful day today.  She was much more alert and quite a chatterbox!  Her lunch request today was tuna salad.  What she didn't know was that it was going to be delivered by a special guest…..Willie!

Because Willie isn't allowed in the hospital, Mom was bundled up and wheeled outside. I am sure that the fresh air and a happy golden retriever did her a world of good.

January 3, 2015 -Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom was able to sit up today for about thirty minutes and eat some delicious food that Brent and Courtney brought.  She is still very sleepy, a change in medications was discussed to try to help with that.  Meredith and Brent visited several rehab facilities and picked the two that they felt Mom would do best in.

The current thought is that she will be released from the hospital Monday or Tuesday depending on availability at either place.

January 2, 2015 - Brent's in Brandon, Mississippi

Mom is still very weak and wobbly.  Because of these issues, it has been decided that the best course of action right now is to have her go into a rehab facility after she is released from the hospital.  There she would receive intensive physical therapy which will get her up and about much sooner.

Mom got a surprise today........Meredith!  After being stranded overnight in the Denver airport, she made it to Mississippi.

Mom is on a medicine that has a very strange side effect, it makes her legs feel like jello.  Meredith was on the same drug about 7 years ago, it had the same effect on her.  In Mom's weakened state, this is going to be a huge challenge.

I would be remiss if I didn't quack, quack, quack for the Ducks.  Today is the Rose Bowl.......GOOOOOOOO DUCKS!!!!
