August 31, 2012

August 31, 2012

This turned into a very busy day!  What else is new?!

Michelle and I started the day on the garage sale trail.  There weren’t too many signs out today, but we were able to find several good ones and some not so good.

In between finding the sales we made a stop at Loveland High School to take some paperwork to Joshua.  He is a very good looking young man who looked even better today walking toward the car.  He was wearing a green Oregon Ducks t-shirt.  Go, Ducks!

We drove a few miles to Berthoud where there is a small Habitat for Humanity thrift store.  We had been to it about a year ago and thought they had a good store.  Today we found several good deals, including a Longaberger basket for $4.  If you know anything about those baskets, you know that it was a good deal.  In their catalog, nothing is under $50.

On the way back to Loveland, we stopped at Wendy’s for lunch before going to Ft. Collins for some mall shopping.  Connor’s 16th birthday is less than a week away.  We plan to have a party for him this weekend before Willie Nelson takes us “on the road again.”

At 4:00 we went Connor’s JV football game.  They played well, but didn’t win.  It was easy to locate his No. 59 because he played center for the first half of the game.  When he switched to defense for the second half I had more of a problem keeping track of him.

Joshua is on the varsity team so he wasn’t suited up for the game, but I located him quite easily.  He was helping with the “chains” and he was the only one around who was wearing a green Oregon Ducks t-shirt!  I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again.  Go, Ducks!

August 30 2012

August 30, 2012

We were at our lawyer’s office for quite a while this morning.  We had some questions to ask and lots of forms to sign.

I was very proud of Bill.  He stayed awake.  As soon as he got home, I am really sure he headed for a nap.  I really can’t say absolutely, because I “dumped” him at the driveway and took off.

I had several places to go in preparation for our departure on Tuesday.  We both needed some of our prescriptions refilled so that involved a trip to Walmart.

I also shopped at my own pace.  That is a luxury I don’t often have.  As I went back to my car I saw a small fire kind of close to the front sidewalk of the store.  They have a chili pepper roaster there and will roast, for free, the peppers you buy inside the store.

I’m not sure what was burning, but there was smoke, mainly, and a black towel was on the ground.  There was a lot of water around and someone was stomping on the towel.  Such excitement!  It was either a fire or a new dance step that I had never seen before.  All I can say is, if you want hot peppers you should go to the pepper roasting place at Walmart.  Ah, Chihuahua!  The fun never ends.

The weather has been rather warm the last few days, so after getting some banking chores accomplished,  I went to Meredith and Dwaine's cool house.  Dwaine, the dogs, and I watched a movie.  Actually, I was the only one not napping.  Meredith was in her upstairs office, so we tried to stay out of her way.

I called Brent tonight to see if Isaac had brought much rain to his area.  He said they got about 3”.  Most of it went to the Delta area of Mississippi and to Arkansas.  Glad he’s safe!

August 29, 2012

August 29, 2012

I worked on paperwork off and on for quite awhile today.  And I still have more to do.

Bill got a report from the test that was taken on Monday.  As of now, things are OK.  He has another appointment when we come back to Loveland in November.  We both really like our new doctor.

Michelle and I went on a couple of errands when she finished work.  Target was our main destination.  Lori had called and ask us to look for a Bronco costume for Tucker.  The only ones we found were too expensive.  They were cute, but costly.  I have some Bronco fabric so maybe Lori can whip up something for the Tuckster.

Michelle had left a ham baking.  When we got back she made a really good rice dish, plus peas and corn to go with it.  We are getting very spoiled with so many good cooks in the family.  Bill won’t be happy when we leave here and I remind him that toast is a hot meal!

And speaking of leaving Loveland...our plans are to leave on Tuesday, September 4.  Bill is anxious to get on the road, but doesn’t want to travel on Labor Day.

August 28, 2012

August 28, 2012

I had a doctor’s appointment this afternoon to go over the results of my lab work.  Everything checked out on the good side...cholesterol, both good and bad, blood pressure, anemia, thyroid...were great.

As for the bone density test, she said I was her star patient.  I guess Dr. Teschenko, who did my knee replacements, was correct when he said I have concrete bones.  Dr. Cuervo said he was absolutely right.

When we left there we went to the dermatologist office.  I needed some of the stitches taken out of my nose.  Dr. Bruce did it for me and wants to see me when we are back in the area in November.

On our way back home we went to the DQ.  Our purpose was twofold.  Ice cream, of course.  And we wanted to see some bronze sculptures that were on display in the parking lot and will soon be shipped to Salt Lake City to be put on permanent display.  One was a snow boarder and the other was a fly fisherman.  They were both very impressive.

After resting for about an hour, we went to Meredith and Dwaine’s for dinner.  She fixed salmon, asparagus, rice, and salad, with ice cream and fresh peaches for dessert.  It was so-o-o good!  Happy tummies!

August 27, 2012

August 27, 2012

Bill and I went to Taco Bell for lunch.  From there we went to the library.  I had two books to return.  It took us a while to get to the right place because of one way streets, etc.

Bill had an appointment this afternoon for an ultrasound.  It didn’t take very long.  The worst part was waiting in the waiting room.  We had gone early to his appointment.  Add that to the 30 minutes they delayed calling him for the procedure.  It made for a long afternoon.

We made a quick trip to Walmart before going back home to rest.

Tonight, “Dr. Michelle” came out to the MH to remove the stitches from my “nose job.”  She was able to get two of them out, but there are several still hanging on.  I told her I wouldn’t pay her because she didn’t finish the job.  I wonder if I can get away with that if I have to go back to the surgeon to have the “reluctant” ones removed.

August 26, 2012

August 26, 2012

Part of the family...Meredith, Michelle, Joshua, and Connor...drove into Denver mid morning to watch the Bronco preseason against the 49ers.  Some of the rest of us watched on KGO out of San Francisco.  The Broncos played a better game than last week, but lost by several points.

The group at the game left at the end of the 3rd quarter, because it was so hot.  On the TV it showed the temp was 115° on the field.  Ugh!

Matthew and I went for root beer floats at Red Robin.  On the way home we stopped at a garage sale.  Most of their things were priced too high.  There was some yarn that Lori could use for her weaving.  I picked some out and offered half of what it should of been.  They accepted my offer.  I love dickering, whether it be at a garage sale or in Mexico!  Its a fun “game” to play.

Depending on the results of our medical tests, this may be our last week in Colorado.  California, here we come!

Bill has a very, very firm pillow.  I rolled over and hit one of the corners with my nose.  It really hurt.  I told Bill that if anyone ask about my nose, I would tell them I had a fight with a pillow and lost.  He said he would believe it, but then he knows me better than most.

August 25, 2012

August 25, 2012

I felt better today than for the last several days.  It has been good to have all the bandages off.  The infection looks like it is under control.

Meredith and I went to a garage sale, fabric shopping, PetSmart, and Wendy’s for lunch.   When I got home I took a long nap.  I wear out quickly these days.

Michelle didn’t feel well and spent most of the day in bed. She goes “full tilt” most of the time and certainly needed a day to crash.

We went to Meredith and Dwaine’s for dinner.  We sat on their deck and watched the boats on Boyd Lake.  It is so relaxing to sit out there in the evening.  And an extra bonus was a fire in the fire pit so we could make Smoors.  It was a great evening!

We got home in time to watch the last 100 laps of the NASCAR race from Bristol, Tennessee.  There was a lot of “beatin’ and bangin’ ” causing several caution flags toward the last of the race.

August 24, 2012

August 24, 2012

This morning I had a bone density test.  It was the first one I’d ever had.  It was so easy.  All I did was lie on a table. The technician ran a “scan thing” back and forth a few times.  And I didn’t even take a nap.  I could have, but I didn’t.

I had noticed, when I looked in the mirror this morning, that parts of my nose were red, like an infection.  Since I have no desire to look like Bozo, the clown, I went back to my surgery place to have it checked.  Sure enough, I had the beginning of an infection.

Joshua said if I would keep my red nose, I could be Rudolph for Christmas.  He is such a help!!!  His humor is so much like Brent’s.  It is good to see that going on to the next generation, even though its usually aimed at me.

I had planned to go to both Joshua and Connor’s football scrimmage this afternoon, but I decided, at this point, I needed a nap more than I needed to cheer.  Bill went to represent the “geezer and his TW”...that’s us!

August 23, 2012

August 23, 2012

Today I began feeling better.  I spent about half as much time resting as yesterday.

Bill and I are changing to a Primary Care Physician here in Loveland.    We have had several appointments, lab work, that kind of thing.  Plus having the thing with my nose...we have been very busy.  We still have several more appointments before we can leave for California.

We had hoped to go to Oregon, but that will have to be put off until next year.  It has been awhile since we were there.

Brent’s kids started school a couple of weeks ago.  Michelle’s three start next Monday.  Two of them have been to football camp and other things like that for most of the summer so it won’t really be too much different for them.  Matthew is the only one that’s had a “normal” summer, whatever that might be.

Our summer hasn’t been normal, but that’s to be expected.  It has been great!

August 22, 2012

August 22, 2012

I spent most of the day resting.  If I stay upright for very long I have some pain in the area of the incision. I’m taking Tylenol about every five hours.

I took the pressure bandage off after lunch.  That was a great relief.  Hopefully, I will be able to sleep better tonight.

It was a warm and kind of muggy.  It certainly was a good day to be a lazy bum!

“Tex” is taking good care of me.  When he is watching a Western he turns the TV on in back so I can watch while I rest.  Yippy, Skippy!  Is he a nice cowboy or what?!

August 21, 2012

August 21, 2012

I spent three hours at the doctor’s today.  I had a carcinoma removed from my nose today.  Bill ask if I would still be nosy after the procedure.

I look like I’ve been in a fight and lost.  I have had a rough afternoon, but the doc assures me that I will feel better tomorrow.

I hope he’s right. If he’s wrong, I might be tempted to go back and rearrange his nose.  Actually, he was very nice.  We talked about geocaching.  He’s new to the sport.

Hope I feel like writing more tomorrow.

August 20, 2012

August 20, 2012

Michelle took today off from work so we spent most of the time running errands.  There never is a shortage of those around here.

As a treat, we took Matthew for root beer floats.  That is one of his favorites.  We went to Red Robin where they serve "bottomless" floats.  He consumed three!  Yup!  He really likes 'em!

We had the carpet cleaned today.  It really needed it after all the traveling this spring and summer.  It looks like new.

We had a funny thing happen yesterday, so I am going to backtrack and share it with you.  A lot of you know that about 25 years ago Bill cut off a finger on his left hand.  And, no, that's not the funny part.  Please read on.

Yesterday when we were eating lunch up on top of the mountain, I ask Bill how much it was going to cost to get the carpet cleaned.  Because he was eating he raised his left hand.  I said, "40?"  He shook his head and held up his hand again.  I replied the same as before.  He looked at me as if I were a nitwit.  Then he looked at his hand and immediately held up his right hand.  I said, "Oh, 50."  Meredith and I laughed uncontrollably.  It was the funniest thing that's happened since the kids and I went through family pictures in June!

August 19, 2012

August 19, 2012

Michelle made waffles for breakfast.  That was a treat for us.  Since I have convinced Bill that toast is a hot meal, I guess I could make a piece of toast and pound dents in it with a tiny hammer.  I wonder if Bill would believe I had made him a waffle!

Meredith and Dwaine came at 10:30 to take us for a drive up into Rocky Mountain National Park.  After driving through Estes Park, we took a nine mile, one way, dirt road.  There were lots of places to pull off and take pictures.  It was a beautiful drive.

At the end of the Old Fall River Road (closed in winter) we arrived at the Alpine Visitor Center, elevation 11,796 ft.  We ate lunch at the snack bar before taking the main road back down to Estes Park and on into Loveland.

August 18, 2012

August 18, 2012

At 3:30 this afternoon, Meredith and Dwaine came to deposit the pups with Michelle and Grandpa, collected Matthew and me, and headed for Denver and the Bronco preseason game against the Seahawks. Sorry, Brent! I'm cheering for the Broncos.

We parked two blocks from the stadium.  Meredith had made really good chicken/bacon/cheddar cheese sandwiches for our tailgate party.  We sat and enjoyed ourselves for about an hour before packing everything away and walking to "Mile High Stadium."

Our seats were in a good place.   Over 70,000 fans were there. The weather was great.  The only bad thing about the whole experience was that the Broncos lost.  I'm sure I could hear Brent cheering all the way from Mississippi and a few sobs coming from Lori in California.

August 17, 2012

August 17, 2012

We had a very busy morning.

First, I went to the eye doctor who did my cataract surgery.  It was a yearly checkup.  He was very pleased with my progress.  I have been, too.  Its so great not to have to wear glasses.  What a treat after most of my life was spent being “four eyes,” as the mean kids at school called me.

Next, we went to Walmart to get a prescription for me.  That didn’t take long.

From there we went to Wendy’s for lunch.  They are giving away really neat Bronco glasses with the 2012 schedule printed on it.  So I have to go back two more times, since we have more than one Bronco fan in the family.

On our way back across Loveland we stopped at Meredith and Dwaine’s house.  They were on the patio eating lunch.  We visited for a few minutes before going to our last stop of the day...the lawyer’s office to pick up some paper work.

Home at last for nap time.  We were both tired from all that running around.  Bill was doing the driving, but it was a hard job for me, telling him where to go...next!

So you see, it was a very busy day!

August 16, 2012

August 16, 2012

It was cool this morning.  In fact, it was so cold that I didn’t want to get out of bed.  So I didn’t.  I just stayed snuggled down in the covers and dozed off and on.

I didn’t leave the house until Michelle was off work.  We went to Sam’s Club.  With her boys eating so much, she always needs groceries.

We had a hard rain this evening.  The only problem was that it didn’t last long enough.  It may have cleared the air, though.  We have been getting smoke from the forest fires in Washington.  We really don’t need it.  Colorado has had enough of its own smoke to last a long time.

The temp tonight was 61°.  Brrr!

August 15, 2012

August 15, 2012

I went for lab tests this morning at 8:15.  It didn’t take very long.  I was back home by 9:00.  In spite of the short amount of time it took, I was really tired.

I “borrowed” Bill’s nap place because it was in the sunshine and I was cold.  I read for a while and slept some, too.  After an hour or so, I got up and discovered him asleep on the bed, so I crawled up beside him and went back to sleep.

When I was finally able to wake up enough to get up, it was 2:00.  What a way to shoot a day, but I felt much better after all that rest.

Bill fixed dinner.  His specialty is meatloaf and baked potatoes.  Michelle contributed a salad.  We had a feast!  Bill makes really good meatloaf.  We had happy tummies!

Today was cooler than yesterday.  That was good.

August 14, 2012

August 14, 2012

The cool didn’t last.  By mid morning we already knew it was going to be warmer than yesterday.

I had an appointment with our new primary care doctor.  Her name is Julia Cuervo.  I really did like her.  And yes, I do have another urinary tract infection.  It just keeps on and on.  I have lost count of how many I’ve had in the last year and a half.  Maybe she will help me solve the problem.

Meredith, Joey, and Hapa walked over for a visit during Meredith's lunch hour.  Both dogs are very happy to be in the motorhome.  Joey sits in front of a fan and Hapa sleeps by me at "my office" AKA the table.  They both like to have their backs scratched.

At 4:00, Bill and I went out caching, our first time in a couple of weeks.  It was 90° with a breeze blowing so it wasn’t too unpleasant.

We found eight caches before going to a Geocache Meet N Greet meeting at Red Robin.  The food was OK.  The best part was visiting with other cachers.  Some we had met before and some were new to us.

Since we can count the gathering as a “find” we had nine caches today.  Yippy! Skippy!

August 13, 2012

August 13, 2012

This was the coolest day we’ve had in several weeks.  And it was cloudy.  Bill and I wouldn’t mind some more days like this.

This afternoon, Bill and I had an appointment with a lawyer.  As we got out of the car and headed toward the office, a man came out to stop us from entering the building.  They could smell smoke and thought it might be an electrical problem.  The fire department arrived soon after and did a thorough inspection, before giving the building the all clear.

While we were standing on the sidewalk, our lawyer introduced himself.  We stood there and discussed our business.  That’s the first time we’ve ever conducted business in that setting.  It was a new one for us!

We went to the Loveland Library before returning home.  I thought a nap might be in my future, but I got involved in “Gunsmoke.”  Michelle and I went to Sam’s Club when she finished working for the day.

I kind of feel at loose ends since the Olympics are over.  We watched more this year than ever before.  And really enjoyed it.

August 12, 2012

August 12, 2012

At 11:00 Michelle and I went to a craft fair in the area.  Loveland is a very artistic community.  There are over 300 bronze statues in the city.  There are several foundries making the Loveland area famous throughout the country for its sculpture.

There are also beautifully decorated hearts at a lot of the businesses.  And many of the large green electrical boxes located throughout the city have been painted to depict the history of the area.

The craft fair was in conjunction with two sculpture shows in the area this weekend.  The fair had about 40 booths displaying a wide variety of artistic endeavors.  Michelle and I had a really good time wandering through the fair.

We hadn’t been home very long when Meredith, Dwaine, and the pups came for a visit.  Hapa must have been tired because she spent quite a bit of time lying on my feet and taking a nap.

We watched part of the closing ceremonies from the Olympics.

August 11, 2012

August 11, 2012

Today was a busy day for me.  Michelle and I went to garage sales this morning.  After finding a few we got Meredith and went for several more.  There didn’t seem to be as many sales today as there usually are in this area.  We did get some good bargains.  And half the fun is just seeing what’s out there for sale.

After lunch and checking on Michelle’s boys, she and I went to Ft. Collins to the Michael’s Craft store and Hobby Lobby.  I have been looking for white beads to use on the crosses that I’m making.  I finally found some.  Yippy, Skippy!  I bought two packages.  That should last a while.

We bought peaches from a produce tent.  When we got back home we make peach cobbler to take to Meredith and Dwaine’s tonight.

Meredith cooked ribs, and had baked red potatoes and made a salad to go with the meat.  It was all very good.  After we have given the meal time to settle, Michelle served the cobbler with ice cream.  We all had “happy tummies” for sure.

August 10, 2012

August 10, 2012

This morning I got a call with the results of the biopsy taken from my nose.  It is a basal cell carcinoma.  I have an appointment on August 21 to have all the bad cells removed.

I told Bill that I don’t know how much of my nose will need to be removed.  He said I might not be able to be nosy after this.  What a rotten person he is, don’t you agree?

We also arranged for a primary care doctor for this area.  I will double check on Monday to see if this group of doctors accepts Medicare consignment.  That is important to us.

I stayed in the motorhome most of the day, sometimes watching the Olympics and sometimes watching things like Gunsmoke and Rawhide.  You know, all those high class Westerns!

August 9, 2012

August 9, 2012

This morning we watched the Olympics.  I had wanted to watch synchronized swimming and I finally got to this morning.  Those athletes are amazing.

We also watched the decathlon.  The guy who got the gold medal is from Bend, OR, and graduated from the University of Oregon.  GO, DUCKS!  His coach was wearing a green Oregon shirt.

Rhythmic gymnastics also started today.  It was amazing what those girls could do with a “hula hoop” or a 14 oz. ball.

Another interesting thing on tonight was BMX racing.  I didn’t even know it was an Olympic sport.

Michelle and I went to Sam’s Club and shared a four berry sundae.  Yum. yum!  That was my only outing for today.

August 8, 2012

August 8, 2012

While Bill and Joshua drove south on I-25 to Camping World I stayed home and worked on the checkbook.  If we didn't spend any money the checkbook wouldn't be such a chore.  Hm-m-m!

Grandpa has been taking Joshua out for driving lessons.  Today was JC's first time to drive on the Interstate.  Bill reports that the "kid" is doing a great job.

When they got home with the CRV I took it over.  I went to our favorite thrift store, Habitat for Humanity.  I had some things to donate.  I couldn't resist...I just had to go into the store and shop. I didn't stay long, however, because I still needed to go to Walmart before going back home.

Bill and I went to Meredith and Dwaine’s at 4:00 to play with the pups.  Dwaine went to the grocery store.  Bill took a nap, as did Hapa and Joey.  I sat in a comfy chair and played Solitaire.

Meredith arrived home at 5:30.  It was nice to sit down to a quiet dinner.  Rather unusual these days!

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

August 7, 2012

August 7, 2012

At 11:00 I had an appointment with a dermatologist.  The place on my face that I was concerned about wasn’t anything that I should be concerned about.

The scar from my misfortune in December hadn’t healed as well as it should have.  The doctor treated that area, plus several other places on the right side of my face.

The major affliction was on my nose.  The doctor took a biopsy.  It will be a week to 10 days before the results are back.  In the meantime I will have a Band-Aid on my nose.  How funky is that?  Not very!

When Michelle was off work we went to a bread thrift store.  She buys a lot of bread, rolls, and buns and puts them in the freezer.  She really makes good use of her upright freezer.

Bill and I watched the Olympics until 11:00.  That was very unusual for us to stay up that late watching TV.

Monday, August 6, 2012

August 6, 2012

August 6, 2012

Bill went to Camping World this morning.  After he got home, I claimed the Honda CRV and went off to get some errands done.

I went to JoAnn Fabrics, Walmart, and Hobby Lobby.  At each place I spent quite a bit of time.  There was so-o-o-o much to look at.  I think its always that way for me.

I also got an appointment with Dr. Kirk, who did my eye surgery a year and a half ago.  This is a routine post surgery checkup.  As far as I can tell, my eyes are doing great.  And I should know.  I look out through them every day.

Before I got home a storm rolled through.  High winds and rain.  It cooled things down nicely.

When Michelle finished working we went to the library.  Loveland has a very nice library, recently remodeled and expanded.  The community really supports it.  And as with the rest of the city, there are some really special bronze sculptures at the library.

On our way home, we went by a pizza place.  That’s a great dinner for Michelle’s hungry boys, two of which started football camp today and really had a workout.  They certainly aren’t little eaters!!!

We finished the day watching the Olympics.

August 5, 2012

August 5, 2012

Today was rather warm.  It turned into a lazy day for me.

Meredith and Bill worked on her Mimi Cooper this afternoon...spark plugs, wires, oil and filter change, and several more things that I just can’t remember.  They worked for about 2 1/2 hours.

Meredith got her love for Minis from her parents.  We have had several red ones over the years, but they were the older style.  Meredith’s is the new style.  She loves it.

This afternoon we watched the NASCAR race from Pennsylvania.  It started late because of a rain storm that passed through.  Not long after completing a few more laps than the halfway mark another storm blew in.  The race was called because of the hard rain and quite a bit of lightening.  Jeff Gordon was in the lead when the storm started, and shortly afterwards NASCAR declared him the winner.

We watched the Olympics until bedtime.

August 4, 2012

August 4, 2012

The white Honda van headed toward Denver at 11:15.  Those present were Meredith, Michelle, Joshua, Connor, Ron in the driver's seat, and this old, gray haired woman riding shotgun.  We were going to watch a Denver Bronco scrimmage at "Mile High Stadium."

When we got to the stadium and parked we had a tailgate party.  Meredith and Michelle had taken things for sandwiches, several kinds of fruit, chips, and sodas.  None of us went into the scrimmage hungry.

We sat on the west side in the shade.  A cool breeze was blowing.  It was pleasant sitting watching the crowd.  There were over 41,000 Bronco fans in attendance.  It was so much fun.

We got home at 7:00, tired, but happy.

August 3, 2012

August 3, 2012

Bill was off to a “Dane start” this morning.  We pulled out of Chugwater at 5:45.  I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I got up, wrapped myself in a blanket, and did my “Squaw Woman” act while I was sitting in the front seat.

There were four camels in a field on the east side of the Interstate.  We also saw the same number of antelope as we drove along.

Honk! Honk! Yahoo, Colorado!  The countryside was much greener than we have been seeing since we left Mississippi.  “Sippi” had a lot of rain and Colorado has been getting daily showers.  Water does wonders...usually!

Between Ft. Collins and Loveland there were six hot air balloons, floating along on a sunshiny day.

We arrived at Michelle’s at 8:00.  She was surprised we got there that early.  I don’t know why.  She knows how her dad is when he gets close to his destination.  Kind of like a horse heading for the barn.  There’s no stopping him.

Meredith and Dwaine brought the pups over at noon.  They stayed for about 30 minutes before she had to go back home to log in for work again.  They came back for a hamburger supper and Olympics watching.

Today’s Travel Totals: Mileage, 102---Critter sightings,  4 camels, 4 antelope.

We pulled out of our camping spot at 7:30.  We had a hard rain pass through just before we were ready to leave.  It lasted for about three minutes.  All the time the sun was still shining!

We used the dump station at Cabela’s on our way to Sam’s Club to get diesel fuel.  We got onto I-90 heading west.  Empty holding tanks, and a full fuel tank...ah, life is good.

At Spearfish we met RVing friends, Ginny and Ed, for breakfast.  It was really good to have the time to visit with them.  Hopefully, the next time we pass this way we can stay awhile and do some caching.  Several years ago when we were in the area we introduced them to geocaching.  It is fun when we can cache with friends, but this time we needed to “keep on trucking.”

We crossed into Wyoming with much honking and yahooing.  At Sundance, we turned south to take a back road through eastern Wyoming.  It was remote, dry, and windy.  Not a place we would want to live, and a lot of people must feel the same way.  There were very few houses for miles and miles.

I-25 south took us to Chugwater, Wyoming, population 221.  We parked for the night on a gravel lot by a closed cafe.  The story of how Chugwater got its name goes like this...Indians hunting buffalo drove them over a nearby cliff.  When the animals reached the ground below, a sound of "chugging" was heard by the hunters. Since a stream was near the base of the cliffs, the site of the stampede was called "water at the place where the buffalo chug."

Today’s Travel Totals: Mileage, 327---Critter sightings, lots of antelope.

August 1, 2012

We just “doodled” around this morning, watching some of our recorded Olympics programs.

When we did leave the MH, it was for lunch out and a quick trip to Walmart.  On the the way home, we went to a park to try to find a geocache.  “Try” is the key word.  We looked for quite awhile.  No luck.

And the evening was once again watching the Olympics.  This is really cutting into our “Gunsmoke watching time.”  Poor Tex is in withdrawal.
