June 30, 2011

When our daughter, Michelle, was seven years old she said, in all seriousness, “When I grow up will I be crazy like you?”  My reply was, “I hope so.  Its so much fun.”  Well, it must still be true, because my friend, Sheila Meeks, dubbed me the Queen of Crazy.  Bill says that Sheila and I are both a half bubble off level.  And still having a good time!

We left Florida this morning and drove to Foley, Alabama to eat lunch at Lambert’s, Home of the Throwed Rolls.  And like their name indicates, the only way you can get a hot roll is if they throw it to you.  I’m glad Coleson is a good catcher, because I’m not.  Lambert’s is not only a fun place to eat, but the food is very good.  Afterwards, we went to the movie to see Cars 2.  It was fast paced and entertaining.  We also managed to find three geocaches before going to the Escapee RV Club’s campground in Summerdale.

June 29, 2011

We have spent most of the last few days at the beach. Today we headed west from the famcamp.  On the way to the beach we did some geocaching...the first finds in quite some time.  Our destination was Navarre Beach. The waves were great.  Brent and the kids spent most of the time body surfing.  I sat in a chair under a beach umbrella reading a book.  Ah!  Life is good!  I just wish Dr. Kirk from Loveland, Colorado knew how much I am enjoying my good vision as a result of the cataract surgery.  It was a beautiful day to sit on a white sand beach and look out over the blue water.  Sigh!

June 26, 2011

These last two days have been like a whirlwind.  Yesterday, we went to Eglin AFB and drove around seeing all of the changes since Brent left.  We took time to do a bit of shopping at the BX.  From there we went to the Armament Museum which has a lot of information on weapons, some of which were developed at Eglin.  Before going back to the motorhome we played a round of miniature golf at Goofy Golf.  It is one of our favorite places in this area.  After dinner, Brent, Coleson, and Sara went to the beach.  Several hours later Brent came in hobbling along.  The kids were trying to act as his crutches helping him in.  He had jumped off a pier and twisted his ankle.  We packed it in ice, hoping that would take care of it.  No such luck!  By 10:00 his pain had increased and he decided that he needed to have it checked like I had suggested earlier.  We went to the ER at Eglin.  An hour later they had determined that is was a bad sprain, but not broken.  Those of you who have known this family for awhile know that I have taken Brent for x-rays many times in his younger years.  In fact, the x-ray tech at the hospital in Seaside, OR suggested that we buy stock in the hospital because we were there so much.  On the way home an hour later I told Brent that it was just like old times.

Today we spent most of the day either watching the NASCAR race or at the beach.  The evening was beautiful so we had a cookout.  Afterwards, while Brent took a much needed nap, the kids and I went back to the beach.  The sunset was magnificent...a perfect ending to the day.

June 24, 2011

In yesterday’s blog I didn’t identify “we” when writing about leaving Mississippi.  This “blog business” is a learning experience!  So today I will start with a Cast of Character:  Brent, our son, his children, Coleson and Sara, and Willie, Brent’s Golden Retriever.  Of course, Bill and I are along, too.

This morning we set off for the beach on Okaloosa Island.  It was partly cloudy, but good beach weather, nevertheless.  We were back at the motorhome by mid afternoon.  Bill and Willie stayed home to rest while the rest of us went to the old downtown Ft. Walton Beach to check out some of the shops.  We spent about an hour at Ft. Walton Landing, a really nice park on the Intercoastal Waterway before going home for dinner.  Brent and the kids finished the day at the base beach.  It was a really busy day.

June 23, 2011

We left Brandon, MS this morning at 11:00 and headed for Ft. Walton Beach, FL.  Brent was stationed at Eglin AFB for five years and it is still one of our favorite places to visit.

Just after crossing from Mississippi into Alabama we stopped at our favorite Sonic for lunch.  Even Willie (Brent’s golden retriever) had treats...a plain hamburger and ice cream.

We got to the FamCamp at Hurlburt Field AFB at 5:30.  It really felt good to be in Florida.  Brent misses living here and so do I...miss Brent living here, that is!

Soon after we got parked the MH we headed to the base to shop at the commissary.  That’s always a fun thing to do because they have many different kinds of food from different places.  Before going back to the motorhome we drove into FWB to see the changes.

June 21, 2011

I spent most of the morning wrapping Christmas presents.  I know!  I know!  The holidays are still six months away.  Bill, the smart alack, ask which year the presents are for.  When we leave Brent's house in a few weeks, I will store the presents in the top of his closet.  It takes some of the rush off in December!

It rained this afternoon.  Brent's yard was very thirsty.  It has been really dry here this past month.  Tonight,  Brent smoked ribs, made potato salad, and deviled eggs.  Several neighbors came with side dishes.  It was quite a feast and a lot of fun.

June 19, 2011

June 19, 2011--We left Loveland, CO on Wednesday.  I spent most of our driving time trying to set up a blog for journaling our travels.  No luck!  Thursday I tried again.  No luck this time either.  As our journey toward Mississippi and Brent’s house continued so did my efforts at blogging.  Ugh!   Those of you who know me and my limited techno abilities will realize just how much help I needed. Our daughter, Lori, and grandson, JP, offered their assistance.  Even with those two great minds helping, it still wasn’t an easy task.  JP, computer guru to the Dane family, was finally able to accomplish it.  So here goes...

Today was not only Father’s Day, but also Brent’s birthday.  Sara, Coleson, Bill, and I took him to dinner, but didn’t embarrass him by singing to him.

The day was warm and muggy, but what can we expect from a summer day in Mississippi!
