We didn’t leave the campground until 10:30 this morning. After stopping at Walmart for fuel we headed for Alabama. It’s not that we are so crazy about Alabama, and especially Foley, Alabama, but that’s where one of the three Lambert’s is located and we MUST eat at Lambert's when we are anywhere near one. Its the law of the jungle...especially our “jungle.”
Bill and I did our state line routine as we crossed the bridge into Alabama. The road from Pensacola to Foley is a good one. The only problem is that often times some “old” person pulls out in front of us and then pokes along, with no obvious concept as to how much road it takes to stop a behemoth this size.
After parking at Walmart we took the Honda to Lambert’s. As usual the food was very good and we took enough leftovers for meals for tonight and tomorrow. I am no good at catching anything (except maybe a cold), especially hot rolls, which is the only way to get one at Lambert’s. The “passer” took pity on me, handed me a roll, and said I was his running back. We cheered for the Broncos!
When we finished eating we drove south to Orange Beach, went across the Intercoastal Waterway, and drove west to the end of the island. There were a lot of interesting beach houses to see. When we turned around, we drove several miles east, crossing a bridge only to discover that we had crossed back into Florida. Brent made a u-turn and we went back into Alabama. Brent honked (kind of), but I was the only one yahooing. I’m going to have to work with these Mississippi kin on the “state line routine.”
We found a geocache in a state park and Brent and the kids had time to drive go-carts on several tracks at an amusement park before going back to the moterhome at Walmart. We ate part of the leftovers before hooking the CRV on and driving north to I-10.
Our destination was Bass Pro Shop where we will park for the night. Bill ended the drive in the dark, which is not his favorite thing to do, but knowing we were heading for a well lighted parking lot helped.
