April 19, 2012

Our intention was to geocache on the campus of Ole Miss today, but for several reasons, we decided to forgo that pleasure and journey on up the road.

We parked at Walmart when we got to Holly Springs.  The weather was beautiful so after lunch we went geocaching.

As I was putting on my socks and shoes I saw a tiny, tiny, tiny tick walking on my pants leg.  Ticks are very hard to kill and this one was no exception.  It may have been very small, but it was tough.  Kill it we did, tho!

Four of the caches were close to the Square around the Courthouse.  We decided to walk to as many as we could.  One of them took us to the South Reporter, established in 1865 and still publishing the local newspaper.

From there we walked several blocks to a cemetery that has been in use since the 1830s.  Many veterans’ graves were there, including 10 Confederate Generals, a veteran of the Alamo, one of the first prisoners of war in France during WW1, and many more notables.

We went back home to rest for awhile, before going back out on the trail for four more finds.  It was a good caching day...no DNFs.  Yes!

Today’s Travel Totals: Today’s mileage, 35---Geocaches, 8---Ticks, 1.
