April 21, 2012

April 21, 2012

We awoke to a cold, windy, dreary day.  We went to McDonald’s for breakfast.  It was the snazziest Mickey D’s we ever seen.  In addition to the usual seating they had an area with comfy chairs and low tables, bar stools at long, tall tables for computers or watching a big screen TV, and three booths with computer screens set up to play a variety of video games. And another good thing about it...there was a geocache in the parking lot.  Wow! My kind of place!  Pancakes and a cache, too!

Since the weather was less than perfect, we decided to visit the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center.  Around the city of Corinth were earth fortifications.  Over 23,000 men lost their lives in this battle area.  There were reports of the bodies and equipment of war strewn around the battlefields.  The Interpretive Center was built at one of these earth fortifications.  The US Park Service did an excellent job on the Center.  Walking on a path up to the building, cast in bronze, were items of war left behind by the soldiers...canteens, parts of guns, swords, backpacks, buttons, ammunition pouches and many other things.  The displays in the building itself were meaningful reminders of the bloody Civil War.

After spending two or more hours there, we went back home to rest and try to get warm.  The temperature stayed in the 50s all day.  Br-r-r-r-r-r!

Oh, yes! I found a tick left over from yesterday’s tramping through the woods.  The score now stands at Raymonda--4, Bill--0.
