March 23, 2013

It was 11:10 when we left Yuma.  That was NOT a Dane start.  We had much more “getting ready to roll” to do than usual.  We had more to put away and secure after being in one spot for nearly two months.

We are headed for Tucson where we are having the front seats of the MH redone.  We’ll park at the shop where we are having the work done.

We stopped at Dateland on I-8 for three reasons...to eat lunch, find a cache, and get their world famous date shakes.  The first two things we accomplished easily.  The third thing wasn’t a success.  The shake place was very busy.  The guy making the shakes gave mine to someone else.  The line was even longer, and I decided it wasn’t worth the bother.  Bill had had enough time to get a nap so I went back to the coach and we got on the road once more.

Before we got to Gila Bend I took over the steering wheel and drove for about 45 minutes.  Traffic was not too bad, for which I was thankful.  We were steadily gaining in altitude.  The desert was very green compared to Yuma, with lots of vegetation and an abundance of saguaro.

When we got to Tucson we parked the coach at the upholstery shop and put the dish up in time to watch the Ducks basketball team annihilate St. Louis, who had a higher ranking than Oregon.  It was an impressive performance by the guys in green.  They play again next Friday.

We went to Wendy’s for a salad, came back home to eat, and watched Gunsmoke.

Travel Totals:  Mileage, 226...Geocaches found, 1
