August 23, 2011

August 23, 2011

Since we were going to have to spend most of the day in an air conditioned place we decided that the Honda would be our choice.  We headed for the Badlands.

Highway 44 took us through Buffalo Gap National Grassland.  We found three caches close to the road.  I’m sure there were more along the way, but we haven’t had very good Internet service here and I was only able to load three caches.

After driving for about 60 miles we came to the tiny town of Interior, population 63.  We went into the town to drive around to see what it was like.  That took about three minutes!  Actually, it was an interesting place to see...an old brick school building that appeared to still be in use, and three churches, two small and one medium sized.  There was a small market and two convenience stores.

Soon after getting back on the highway we entered the Badlands National Park.  After going to the Ben Reifel Visitor Center we took a winding road through miles of unusual rock formations.

The north exit from the park took us to Wall.  We ate a late lunch at the famous Wall Drug and found a cache at the city park before driving back to Rapid City on Interstate 90.

It was fun and interesting playing tourist for the day.
