September 1, 2011

September 1, 2011

I’m sure Willie Nelson was singing as we left Gillette at 11:30 this morning.  Believe it or not, today we have a tail wind as we travel south on Hwy. 59  We seldom have a wind pushing us.  So mark this day in history. It might not happen again for millenniums to come.

As we drove through Thunder Basin National Grassland we saw deer and antelope sharing the yummy grass with some horses and lots of cows.  Peaceful coexistence at its best!

Before arriving in Douglas we went through the thriving metropolis of Bill, Wyoming.  Yippy, skippy!  From the looks of things, the population appeared to be about 10, but that may be a gross exaggeration.

When we crossed the North Platte River, Bill and I both had happy memories of rafting the river with our children.  Everyone had a paddle and the big rubber raft went slowly round and round and round.  Great fun!

There is a city park in Wheatland that allows overnight parking.  We have parked here before and were glad that a spot was open for us.  Bill has had a rough day with no time for naps.  Poor guy! It was good just to have a relaxing evening.

For the first of September, this was a very good day as we are on our way to Michelle’s house in Loveland, CO.

Travel Totals:  mileage, 181---critters, one deer and a whole bunch of antelope.
