May 9, 2012

The day was beautiful with no threat of rain so we went out to geocache.  It turned into a very different kind caching of day.  We didn’t find any...one DNF and two that we couldn’t even get to the right area.  All of the lakes and the water way made it difficult to get to where we needed to be.

The one we attempted to find took us over a hill, onto an abandoned, paved road, down a gravel road, and to a muddy pathway, but we still didn’t get very close.  Bill went way into the woods in the direction our GPSs indicated.  No luck!  We decided to bag it.  So it was back on the muddy pathway to the gravel road.

At this point Bill suggested that we climb up a steep hill and walk along the waterway to the dam and locks.  Well...when we got to the top of the hill there was a big field of tall grass.  Bill walked quite a ways across it, but never did find any water.  So, back down the steep hill, along the gravel road, to the old highway, and down the hill to the car.  Gad, zooks!  We were so tired!

We were able to watch a tugboat take loads coal through the locks...three barges wide and two long.  That was a big task and a tight squeeze for that little tug.

On the way back to the MH Bill stopped to pick some wild plums for me.  The small one that I ate was very, very sour.  I tried two of the larger ones which were ripe, but also sour.  Bill said to throw the rest out the window, so I did.  Then he tried to lay the guilt on for getting rid of his nice gift.  What a crock of sour plums!

All in all, it was a fun day!
