June 1, 2012

June 1, 2012

Another new month.  We’ve already had a good dose of summer here in Mississippi.  And there’s more to come, I’m sure.

Today we drove into Meridian to visit the Dentzel Carousel.  It is truly impressive.

It was made for the 1904 St. Louis Exposition.  In 1909, the city of Meridian bought it for $2,000.  Today its value is more than a million dollars.

Throughout the city are carousel horses, decorated by local artists.  The ones we have seen have been beautifully done.  The carousel horse is the mascot of the city, I guess.  Anyway, the carousel theme is important to the city.

We took the long way back to the campground, traveling some very narrow back roads.  According to my Road Classification Chart, we were on “fifthendary roads.”  We were able to snag one cache after a short tromp through the woods.

So far, there are no new ticks to add to the contest!
