Today was just about the same as yesterday...not much of interest happening. I have enjoyed the time to catch up on some things.
This afternoon, we did take a drive into the town of Crane. We were told there was a small grocery store there, but we never did find it. We did see a Post Office and a school. I can’t imagine there are enough children for a school, but maybe they come in from the ranches and farms. The school had boarding facilities, so maybe kids from far-out ranches come for school and go home on weekends. The school had a rodeo arena and a ball field, of sorts.
Bill had washed the Honda and he didn’t want to drive down their unpaved roads very far. We did see two churches. There was also a fellowship center, which sounds like it might have been a church, but looked more like a community center. It was very new and nice. Most of the houses were newer looking and well maintained.
At one time, it was a thriving community, but the railroad route changed and after several fires, the businesses didn’t rebuild. This I found out from Wikipedia. It seemed to be a peaceful town, but I wouldn’t want to live there...too remote.
Tomorrow, we drive to Bend!
