December 15, 2011

It was raining this morning when we got up, so we weren’t too anxious to get out on the caching trail.  By mid morning the rain had stopped so we drove over Hecker Pass to Watsonville.

Our purpose for going there was twofold: (1) to see Kim, Dave, and the other people who work at Heat Wave Labs.  That’s the company Michelle works for, except she’s in the “Colorado Division.”  They are a special group of people and we enjoy visiting whenever we are in the Watsonville area.  (2) to hunt for a cache at the library.  It was very cleverly hidden.  Today was a must cache day for us.

On the way back toward the Camping World parking lot, we both got very tired, so we went home to rest.  Then it was back to the Gilroy area to find some more “hidden treasures.”  We found four before the cold wind got to us.

Brent had some testing done at a hospital in Jackson.  He called just before he headed that way to tell us that he was having some problems.  He said he didn’t want any puppies.  Here’s the story that goes with that...

Several years ago we spent a year with Brent when he was still in the Air Force and stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  He had some medical issues and we not only helped him with that, but we kept Coleson in school and helped with all of his extra activities. As we left him I ask Brent to please keep us informed of his progress.  Bill told him that if he didn’t we would send him four yappy puppies, which is about the most dreadful thing we could do to Brent.

When Brent called today to fill us in on the tests, etc.. the following banter went back and forth via texting between various members of the family:

Brent:  Since I didn’t keep this to myself and was honest about it does that mean you guys now have to keep the puppies?

Me:  I think you are safe.

Lori:  I could send you a teacup pig. Natalia thinks they are adorable.  (she included a picture of a very tiny pig.)

Meredith:  You aren’t off the hook yet...I like the teacup pig option, too.

Me:  Can we vote?

Brent:  In a year...bacon!  Anyone remember 4x4?  (That was the name of a baby pig that “crossed” paths with our family about 30 years ago.)

Lori:  Of course I remember 4x4!  You wouldn’t get enough bacon for one BLT out of a teacup pig.

And so it goes with our fantastically wonderful family!!!
