December 31, 2011

The bus left at 8:00 this morning for the Pasadena City College football stadium and Bandfest 2012.

Several of the bands that will be in the Rose Parade performed.  They were all really good, but the sun was beating down and the temperature was higher than comfortable.  After two hours, I had to leave and find some shade.

The last band that we saw perform was from Crestview, Florida, right outside of Eglin AFB, which was Brent’s last base.  They were very good and it will be a treat to see them in the parade on Monday.

We ate our lunch on the cool bus while waiting for the Bandfest to finish.  When all of our people came back to the bus, we drove to the La Bara Tar Pits and the Page Museum.

I dreaded being back in the sun, but we were much closer to the ocean and there was a cool breeze blowing.  It was very pleasant walking around the 28 acre park learning about the tar pits from our guide.  The museum was excellent.  It was a good way to end our day of touring.

We got back to the MH in time for naps before our catered dinner at 6:30.  Afterwards there was to be a New Year’s Eve party.  We chose not to stay for that.  The old fogies were too tired!
