Thank goodness, the wind had stopped blowing by the time we left Trinidad at 8:00. The climb over Raton Pass didn’t need any more challenge.
We celebrated crossing into New Mexico with honking and yahooing. It had been a long time since we had found it necessary to perform, but we hadn’t lost our touch.
I sent a text to our family. I meant to say we were in New Mexico heading for Santa Fe, but I left the word “New” out. Lori, always the proof reader, replied, “Taking the long way around?” Meredith caught my mistake, also. Her response was, “I was just going to insert ‘New’. I’m the nice child to a geezer mamma.” Lori sent a bunch of smiley faces and this comment, “I got excited when I saw Mexico. Thought that maybe they had hooked up with Dwight and Sheila and were making a run for it.” Have you noticed that our kids don’t cut their geezer mamma much slack?
We stopped at a Rest Area to eat breakfast. Bill turned on the TV and we watched Gunsmoke while we ate. Old Tex really knows how to entertain, doesn’t he?
Our lunch break spot was a parking area on I-25 about 50 miles from Santa Fe. We took time for quick naps. Super Driver was getting tired. He is out of practice for these travel mileage days.
We got to Jim and Peggy’s at 2:30 and had the coach parked and hooked up in just a few minutes. Peggy’s son, Terry and his girlfriend arrived about that time, so we had a nice visit with them. It has probably been 15 years since we have seen Terry.
Our evening meal was “drag outs.” Jim and Peggy had a party at their house Sunday and had lots of food left over. We had lots of good things to sample. And plenty of time to talk.
Mileage for today was 208.
