December 23, 2013---Michelle’s in Loveland, Colorado

There was fresh snow on the ground when we got up this morning.  It wasn’t a lot, but what there was on the ground was very sparkly in the morning sun.

Bill and I went to Best Buy looking for a dash cam.  We weren’t successful.  We will just keep looking as we venture toward Arizona, probably next week.

Meredith, Dwaine, and I drove to Estes Park this afternoon.  The dogs went along, also.  We wanted to see the condition of the road and the damage to property along the Big Thompson River after it flooded in September.

The highway was passable, but will need more work, probably in the spring.  The raging water tore out from under many of the houses sitting right on the edge of the river.  There was so much damage all along the road.  Two dams were washed out and will need to be rebuilt.  Several parks were completely washed away.  At one point, an entire small community was gone.

We spent a couple of hours going in and out of the shops in Estes Park.  There were a lot of people shopping.  I bought a hat and a fleece jacket.  Dwaine bought two mugs.  Meredith just went along to make sure we didn’t get into trouble.  She is very good at that job.

The pups were lucky.  They stayed in the car and didn’t have to endure the cold and wind the rest of us faced!

Since I was in Mississippi at the time of Matthew’s birthday, we celebrated it tonight, with lasagna for dinner and root beer floats for dessert.  It was fun and he didn’t seem to mind a second party.
