May 3, 2014--Lincoln, Illinois to Muscatine, Iowa

I got “forty more winks” while Super Driver took off up the road.  The sound of the diesel engine helps me sleep.  As if I needed help these days.

We crossed over the Mississippi River into Iowa.  We did a really good job of honking and yelling.  In fact, we did it so well that a small fishing boat I could see from the bridge nearly tipped over from all the hoopla.

We took Hwy. 22 soon after we crossed the river.  We didn’t go into Davenport, but went south along the Mississippi to a Corps of Engineers park on the river.  Shady Creek is a nice, well maintained campground.  We signed up for three nights and I got busy on geocaching maps for the area...both sides of the river.

We watched NASCAR qualifying from Talladega.

When night fell along the Mississippi River, it was very, very dark.  Some of the campers had outdoor lights strung around their areas, but they didn’t do much to lighten the place.  We just sat and enjoyed the dark while we watched John Wayne take on the South.

Miles traveled today, 155.
